ANTELOPE VALLEY KENNEL CLUB

Preamble To The Code Of Ethics

This Code of Ethics is designed to provide the Membership of the Antelope Valley Kennel Club with ethical practices relating to the breeding, selling and exhibiting/competition of pure-bred dogs in the Members chosen breed, or breeds.

The Board of Directors of the Antelope Valley Kennel Club, in order to protect and promote the advancement and proper breeding and showing of pure-bred dogs as well as ethical practices, do hereby set forth this Code of Ethics.  The Board of Directors strongly recommends membership in your applicable National Breed Club.  When confronted with a situation not covered in this agreement, Members shall conduct themselves as they would expect to be treated in similar circumstances.

Code Of Ethics

1.     All pure bred dogs shall be sold in good condition and health at the time of delivery.  The dog, to the best of our knowledge, will be free of internal parasites and will have adequate immunization (distemper, hepatitis and leptospirosis, etc.) for age.  A record will be furnished as to the dates given, and the type used, of the immunization shots and worm medicine.  Written instructions shall be provided to the buyer on feeding, health, training and grooming for the adequate care of the puppy or dog.  We shall sell only dogs which display sound temperament at the time of delivery.

2.     We shall guarantee our dogs against any disabling or debilitating defects inherent to the specific breed.  We suggest a contract between buyer and breeder which will cover any of these faults which are manifested up to the age of one year.  We shall not sell dogs with hereditary faults without making the prospective buyer fully aware of said faults in writing.

3.     Registrations and pedigrees must be accurate and valid and no registration may be sold independently of the animal.  All dogs sold by a Member of the Club shall be registered, or eligible for registration, with the American Kennel Club.  If the dog sold is not of breeding quality, the use of Limited AKC registration and/or a spay/neuter contract is recommended.

4.     Pure bred dogs may not be sold from roadway stands or transient headquarters or wholesaled (such as to research labs, pet shops, wholesale dealers, contest sponsors, or as prizes or promotions, etc.), nor shall any Member solicit dogs for these purposes.

5.     All advertising shall be of an honest and forthright nature and may not in any way be misleading.

6.     All males offered at stud shall be in good health, good physical condition, and free from any disqualifying faults.  A written stud contract is suggested.

7.     I will use only physically and temperamentally sound stock, free from all hereditary defects; and I will refuse stud service to any bitch that is unregisterable or shows obvious defects.

8.     Relative to age of the stud dog and bitch, and frequency of breeding of the bitch, AVKC Members shall abide by the recommendations of the applicable national Breed Clubs, and the American Kennel Club.

9.     We shall not enter dogs or be a party to entering dogs which are not cleaned and properly groomed for the activity, nor shall we solicit entries of unprepared or ungroomed dogs for the purpose of gaining championship points.

10.   I will, as a matter of ethics, help educate the public in all areas of Pure Bred dogs in which I am familiar.

11.   Wherever applicable - selling, leasing, stud service, etc., I shall put in written contract form all understandings and guarantees between the other party and myself.

12. Each member of the Antelope Valley Kennel Club shall adhere to the CODE OF ETHICS and shall conduct himself in a manner befitting a person dedicated to the improvement and protection of Pure Bred dogs.  Violation of this Code of Ethics may result in rejection of membership application  or disciplinary action as called for in Article VI of the bylaws of the Antelope Valley Kennel Club.

I/we agree to abide by the above CODE OF ETHICS
